Twas nearly the week before Christmas and in Book World things are not going well.
The marketing push I paid for, which was ostensibly to produce reviews to spread the word, has nearly run its course with no results whatsoever. More money into a black hole of expense.
I have been doing my own review, of sales I have made since I first took up my pen in 1981 to write Trance. These are the numbers:
Book | Published | E-Book | |
Trance | 1991/1993 | 72 | N/A |
Trouble Cross | December 2012 | N/A | 21 |
Rewind | December 2012 | 2 | 61 |
Once Upon A Week | July 2019 | 17 | 2 |
In total then, I have sold 175 books. None of these has been traditionally published because one has the same odds of obtaining the services of a literary agent as winning the lottery, euro millions and set for life draws in the same week without buying a ticket. The publishing and marketing costs have exceeded £11,000 and royalties back around £350.
Time for my Christmas Appeal.
Anyone who knows me. Er … no, that won’t do as most people who know me don’t necessarily like me. Anyone that likes me … er no, that would be too few. Anyone that knows me and doesn’t hate me, please buy a book! No, that is not going to make me rich. They are all up at £1.77, even the two full novels. That is e-book prices, of course, as I would not ask anyone to expend money on the paperback prices, except Once Upon A Week as that seems to be a popular format. What I need is reviews to spread the word. Also, it would be nice to break a 100 sales on at least one book.
My Library page tells you what others that have bought them think. Mostly 4 and 5 stars so they are not total duffs.
Thank you. And please remember – an e-book is not just for Christmas.
